Getting Started with Intermittent Fasting (IF) | QUICK TIPS

This week’s video is the second in a series of QUICK 5 MINUTE VIDEOS all about the power of Intermittent Fasting (IF) for losing weight and getting your health back on track. This video is all about how to get started with IF.

My top tips to get you started:

1. Check in with your health care professional.  Many are looking at the research and supporting the idea of eating less often to support your health.

2. Take before pictures, measurements, weight, so you can see your progress as you move along your fasting journey.

3. Choose a fasting & feasting schedule.  Start with 12 hours of fasting if you want breakfast, lunch & dinner, or 14 hours of fasting by delaying breakfast a little.  Or really go for it and get into fat burning mode by skipping breakfast, fasting for 16 hours, and eating in an 8 hour window, say Noon until 8pm.  All of these are good options for beginners.

4. CLEAN FASTING: no eating of anything with calories or sweet or food flavors.  Just water, black coffee, black tea, or green tea for your fasting hours.  Mineral water, sparkling water, Himalayan salt (I keep a small shaker like this with me at work and use a few grains under my tongue if I feel a little woozy https://amzn.to/2Qgyl1E), pure Magnesium (I love this and put a teaspoon or two in my water when I fast longer https://amzn.to/3wReOpo)

5. Hunger comes in waves.  As Gin Stephens, author of my favorite fasting book (https://amzn.to/3a8nePo), says “Hunger is not an emergency”. Wisdom from Dy Ann Parham, a long time IF YouTuber, “Do Nothing. Gain Everything.”  Usually if you drink some water or tea and get busy doing other things, the wave will pass and you will easily make it to your eating window and enjoy whatever foods you like inside your eating window.
