In this week’s Vlog, I share more about my Progress Not Perfection lifestyle. I also share some quick & easy vegan convenience foods recommendations. I share 7 key tips about keeping a Progress Not Perfection mindset as you adopt & maintain a healthy plant based diet.

Key Tips to remember around the Progress Not Perfection mindset:

1. All-or-Nothing thinking is harmful. The All-or-Nothing Diet-or-Binge cycle always leads to… falling off the wagon, feeling bad, and eating unhealthily for days, weeks, months, or years. It’s not all or nothing. You CAN get right back to healthy meals. Look at your meals like school grades. If you have a D or F meal… get your health right back on track and have a few days of A and B meals. It will all balance out, I promise.

2. Be kind to yourself. Forgive yourself. Don’t beat yourself up over a few lower grade meals. Health is still your goal and you can and will get there.

3. Using food to cope or numb. Understand that food, alcohol, shopping (whatever it is for you, for me its food & alcohol) can be coping mechanisms to deal with stress & anxiety. Realize you are using food to cope, think about better ways to do that, and get back on track with your health goals. Be kind to yourself (#2). Realize that we all do it.

4. Know yourself. If you like to socialize with food & drink, if you are a foodie and love to try new foods, stores, etc., don’t expect to go on a diet and never go out to eat again. It’s not realistic. Find a way to work it into your life and balance it all out.

5. Realistic Expectations. I am 48, I have cellulite on my legs, and I don’t look good in a bikini. I AM OK WITH THAT. I have reached a point in my life where I am happy with a normal BMI weight I can easily maintain, looking good in clothes, looking & feeling healthy, and being on zero medications. I’m proud of that. I have let the bikini hardbody goals go. You can have and reach those goals if that is what you truly desire, for me I know its unrealistic.

6. Imperfect plant based is still healthy. You CAN get a ton of benefits from eating a mostly plant based diet. Even if you are transitioning from a standard meat-based diet or vegetarian diet. The more plant based meals the better. You don’t have to be perfect. You can lose weight, feel great, and even prevent & reverse lifestyle disease with a mostly plant based diet. The only diet proven to reverse the #1 killer, heart disease. It’s a diet worth integrating into your life for the serious health benefits.

7. Always, always, always… get back to healthy eating. Don’t ever give up. Love yourself, encourage yourself, and know that you absolutely can get back on track and back to healthy plant based eating. Don’t let one D grade meal turn you away from healthy eating forever.

You CAN do it! I am here to support you and show you how my husband & I have been eating a healthy plant based diet… and not doing it perfectly… for almost a decade. And we have so many positive health benefits because we have made it a true balanced lifestyle that works for us.

Let me know in the comments if these tips were helpful and what else would be helpful as you adopt & maintain a healthy plant based diet.
