This week’s video is part of my series of QUICK 5 MINUTE VIDEOS all about the power of Intermittent Fasting (IF) for losing weight and getting your health back on track. This video is all about how IF works.
Key things that start happening when you take a break from constantly eating and spiking your insulin:
1. When you are CLEAN FASTING, only drinking water, black coffee, black or green tea, no food, no flavors, no calories – you stop spiking your insulin. Your insulin levels are allowed to drop and stay low for a period of time.
2. Your body uses up the glucose from the food you ate and then starts tapping into glycogen stored in your liver and in your muscles. Your body starts using stored glycogen at around 12 hours of fasting. If you finished eating at 6pm, finish your evening, and sleep for ~8 hours, by 6am, your body is burning glycogen.
3. At around 16 hours, the magic happens! Your body shifts to FAT BURNING. In the example used where you stopped eating at 6pm, by 10am the next day, you are burning the fat stored all over your body. Your body starts producing ketones which provide clarity, good energy, and you feel really good.
4. At around 16-18 hours, your body starts autophagy or recycling proteins. Your body is in scavenging mode and uses up damaged cells, skin tightens up, small skin growths can disappear, all sorts of improvements as your body cleans house.
5. Hormone shifts. Your body begins producing Human Growth Hormone (HGH) the longer you fast, around the 16-18 hour mark. This helps you build muscle naturally with day to day activities. Your metabolism actually increases with IF. You burn fat and build muscle. Appetite correction also happens the longer you fast, you lose the cravings and start to sail through your fasted hours feeling good.
I hope you learned a few things from this description of what happens when you allow your body to take a break from eating and introduce intermittent fasting into your life. It can be truly magical for your body, your weight, and your health.
