OAT JARS: Healthy Breakfast, Snack, or Dessert

In this cooking video, I show you how to make healthy Oat Jars / Overnight Oats / Oat Parfaits. These are great for breakfast in the summertime straight out of the refrigerator.  They also make a great healthy snack or dessert. We have been enjoying them for dessert as we are often doing some intermittent fasting and skipping breakfast.

I make 3 of my favorite flavor combinations: Chocolate Peanut Butter, Vanilla Chocolate Chip & Blueberry Vanilla. So, so tasty, filling, and super healthy.

OAT JAR RECIPE:
1. Get out a few 1.5 or 2 cup jars, mason jars or jars you saved from wherever, with lids.
2. Put a small layer of oats on the bottom, about 1/4 cup of oats.
3. Layer a few chunks of fresh or frozen banana in each jar.
4. Layer a teaspoon of chia seeds (optional)
5. Add a few dashes of cinnamon
6. Add frozen fruit if you are making a fruity flavor combo
7. Add vanilla and/or almond extract if you like, about 1/2 teaspoon or less
8. Add extra natural sweetener (optional), good addition if these are for dessert
9. Add a layer of plain yogurt (optional), homemade or store bought, strained if you like
10. Add some plant based milk or regular milk to each jar to fill about halfway
11. Add 1 teaspoon cocoa for first 2 combos below
12. Add 1 tablespoon peanut butter to first combo
13. Add 1.5 tablespoons chocolate chips to second combo
14. Add another layer of banana chunks, flavorings of choice, oats, yogurt, and then fill to the top with almond milk or milk of your choice.
15. Put lids on jars and store in the refrigerator for at least a few oats to allow the oats to soften and thicken and flavors to come together.
16. Stir well to mix flavors or enjoy as a parfait.

CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER FLAVOR COMBO:
Oats + Frozen Banana + Chia Seeds + Cinnamon + Honey + Yogurt + Almond Milk + Cocoa + Natural Peanut Butter

VANILLA CHOCOLATE CHIP FLAVOR COMBO:
Oats + Frozen Banana + Cinnamon + Vanilla + Almond Extract + Agave + Yogurt + Almond Milk + Chocolate Chips

BLUEBERRY VANILLA FLAVOR COMBO:
Oats + Frozen Banana + Chia Seeds + Cinnamon + Frozen Wild Blueberries + Vanilla + Agave + Yogurt + Almond Milk

OTHER TIPS:
1. You can strain your yogurt in a nut milk bag or yogurt strainer (links below).
2. Keep a banana bag in the freezer with your overripe bananas. Once they start getting brown and spotty, peel them and keep a ziploc bag of bananas in your freezer for making banana ice cream, banana bread, oat jars, anything with naturally sweet creamy bananas.
3. SIMPLIFY! You don’t even need yogurt or any fancy ingredients. You can make a week’s worth of super healthy breakfasts by just layering oats, banana, cinnamon, and your favorite plant milk in a jar.  Keep it quick & easy. This is one of my favorite flavor combos.
